On the Positive Side
SAN ANTONIO—I don't want to give the impression from the last two posts that I have negative feelings about the 2008 AAPA conference.
While I do feel that the attendance is disappointing and that the House of Delegates missed a unique opportunity to debate the single hottest topic in the profession—PA doctorate degrees—I think the conference is outstanding, as always.
The opening session was entertaining. Master of ceremonies Mark Walberg, who is the host of PBS's Antiqutes Roadshow, did an excellent job, and keynote speaker Carl Hammerschlag was very good.
The AAPA videos for the PAragon Award winners were really well done. For such a large event, the AAPA conference always seems to run ridiculously smoothly.
The academy consistently offers quality CME sessions, and all PAs should attend the HOD at least once during their careers, and ideally much more often than that.
The PA Foundation raised more than $15,000 with its Fun Run.
The attendance decline baffles me. If you are a PA and you are not in San Antonio this week, you are missing out on an important part of your profession.
