NCCPA Removes DOD from BOD

Published June 2, 2008 2:43 PM by Stephen Cornell

The Department of Defense will no longer have a representative on the NCCPA board of directors.

After nearly 18 months, it was with significant reluctance that the NCCPA Board of Directors acknowledged the Department of Defense's position that they could no longer appoint an individual to fulfill the requirements of service and participation on NCCPA's Board of Directors. When a participating organization cannot fill the obligations of service, NCCPA's Bylaws require the removal of that organization as a participating organization.

At the same time, the NCCPA Board of Directors recognized that scores of PAs proudly serve in the military and the profession has its historical roots in the armed forces. To ensure that NCCPA has an appropriately well-balanced Board, the Governance Committee was charged to evaluate the Board's overall composition in light of this change and report their findings and recommendations to the Board of Directors.

That's just one snippet of information from the NCCPA's report of its May 3 board meeting in Hilton Head, S.C. There's more on the NCCPA Web site.

The next meeting for the NCCPA BOD and the commission's committees will be in Banff, Canada, from July 31-Aug. 3.
