San Antonio Revisited
I tried to wrap up the AAPA conference blog posts three weeks ago because I felt like the topic was getting a little stale, but the June 30 issue of AAPA News is chock full of articles from San Antonio.
Some tidbits:
The two-page article on the International PA Symposium is interesting.
There is a detailed rehash of the May AAPA board of directors meeting.
In a column, new AAPA president Cynthia B. Lord said that it’s important for the AAPA “to create public awareness of PAs.”
DeSales University won the SAAAPA Challenge Bowl for the third time in seven years. DeSales is not one of the big names in PA education, but it probably should be.
AAPA CFO Bob Johnston blamed “economic conditions” for the disappointing attendance in San Antonio of about 6,500 PAs and PA students. I believe that is too easy an answer and likely wrong. Although the economy as a whole is in crisis, economic conditions have never been better for PAs. PA state and specialty conferences keep shattering attendance records. I think the annual AAPA conference remains a terrific event. However, the PA profession has changed, and I wonder if the annual conference has done enough to appeal to a rapidly changing profession.
The PA Foundation Fun Walk/Run drew 651 participants and raised more than $15,000.
