Federal Government Updates Physician Assistant Standard

Good news from the AAPA's PAs Vote for a Health America: Vote 2008 update.

After many years – 38, to be exact – the Office of Personnel Management has updated the qualification standard for PAs who want to work for the federal government. The apostrophe 's' has been dropped from the title "physician's assistant," and the standard is no longer listed under nursing occupations. Unlicensed physicians or individuals who have completed just a few years of medical school are no longer eligible for PA jobs. The starting grade levels are still rather low, although in line with many other health professions. ...
