Where Have All the PA Blogs Gone? Part II

Published November 12, 2008 9:39 AM by Stephen Cornell

ADVANCE's Terri Schaefer points out that PA student blogger David Burke has fallen off the pace a little bit, too.

Burke, a PA student at the Medical College of Georgia, has been trying to document his PA school experience day by day at Life of a PA. AAPA News even put him on the cover of its July 30 issue. But Burke hasn't posted in nearly two weeks and is actually more than a month behind in his daily updates.

This isn't a criticism of Burke, who obviously is a very busy guy. But it is another example of the decrease in activity in the non-ADVANCE region of the PA blogosphere.

I agree with Bob. As a potential future PA student, I would love for practicing physician assistants and current students to post about their professional experiences.

I am a hopeful future PA student living in North Carolina.  I really enjoy reading the blogs of PAs as well as current PA students.  It gives me a bigger picture of what life will be like in training and the challenges one faces in practice.

Although I certainly can understand busy-ness, this is a GREAT profession and the experiences of those who are part of it are helpful to those of us who hope to be in your shoes some day.

My only other comment is...how can we get more spaces open in current PA programs?  It's very hard to get a seat in a program, although there are plenty of jobs to be had once one graduates and passes PANCE.

It's a bit discouraging to see that with 70,000 PAs that so few are interested in a blog or sharing experiences, cases, frustrations, etc. Unless we remain proactive and stay alert we can be consumed in the future.

We have a great opportunity during this new administration to get the news out concerning the excellent care given by Physician Assistants. we have the opportunity to enhance our value in the aspects of a national health plan. The door is open but we need to walk through.

I'm not talking about Bulldozing down the door that God opens as did Sarah Palin in one of her interviews this week but I am saying to the PA universe "GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE GROUND, LOOK AROUND YOU AND CAPATUE THE OPPORTUNITIES WHILE THEY EXIST."

This can be a decade of change but it is only as we communicate among ourselves can we get the fervor growing. thanks Steve for the wake-up call.
