Medical Credit Checks

Published January 20, 2009 12:09 PM by Stephen Cornell

American Medical News has an article on medical credit checks.

But there are several companies, including the major credit reporting agencies, that want to sell physicians and hospitals information on a patient's creditworthiness by giving a detailed history of payments on credit cards, car loans and mortgages.

"Hospitals and physicians are experiencing more high-deductible plans than ever; more of their revenue has to come directly from the patient, and that's forcing the industry into a more retail model," said Daniel Johnson, president and CEO of SearchAmerica, a firm that provides credit information to hospitals.

Health care forced into more of a retail model. That doesn't strike me as particularly good for anyone. Except maybe the owners of the medical credit check companies.

Physicians nowadays do not know what "caregiver" is.  It is about in a nutshell--money.  You'd think academia educates quality health care providers, but studies show final year medical students have not more medical practice cognizance than first year medical students.  Where is this money spent??  Physicians are increasingly absorbed with the solution to pocket cash flow, and pressuring insured patients reimburse them.
