Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners Working Together

Published March 18, 2009 3:39 PM by Stephen Cornell
The American Academy of Physician Assistants is teaming with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Society of Hospital Medicine to offer a CME titled, "Adult Hospitalist Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner Boot Camp."
This highly specialized and educationally intense "boot camp" will immerse hospitalist PAs and NPs in the most important Core Competencies-based topics routinely encountered in adult hospital medicine practice.

The course will take place in August in Chantilly, Va.

We at the American College of Clinicians have been calling for PAs and NPs to learn from, and about each other for years.

This is a step in the right direction.

Also check out Chamberlain Medical Associates that does a great PA/NP meeting in NH during ski season.

This is a "Must Attend" meeting if you are in a hospitalist position or plan on moving in this direction in the future. i wrote about this professional avenue four or five years ago in Physician Assistant Journal. I mentioned that this would be a new role for PAs and that they needed to get involved now (then). while serving as the AAPA Liaison to the ACS I attended the ACS meeting for non-physicians and they had a panel of speakers, physicians and NPs. No, not a PA on the panel. 70% of the non-physicians were NPs at that time.

Folks, this is a place where we need to demonstrate an interst! this is one of the "hot" places to place your fanny for the future. There are more PAs than just those in CT or Neuro surgery who are candidates.

If you want excitement  and an opportunity to use your skills---Go For It!
