Steve Cornell’s Legacy
If you didn't already know, there was more, much more, to our colleague Steve Cornell than his "day job" here at ADVANCE for Physician Assistants.
As well as being a husband, father and soccer coach, Steve covered the Trenton Thunder as a beat reporter for the Bucks County Courier Times since the franchise's inception in 1994. The Thunder are the Class AA affiliate of the New York Yankees, and before that the team had been the Boston Red Sox's AA farm team.
The Thunder held a moment of silence for Steve before last night's home game against the New Britain Rock Cats. From John Nalbone's article today in the The Times of Trenton:
On an evening set aside to honor the passing of Middletown Township (Pa.) officer Christopher Jones and Tuesday's stunning death of former Bucks County Courier Times beat writer Stephen Cornell, Jorge Vazquez drove in four runs with a mammoth home run and a two-run single to help the Thunder to a 4-1 victory over New Britain in front of a paid crowd of 4,227.
And from
Hunterdon County Democrat beat writer Mike Ashmore’s
"Thunder Thoughts" blog yesterday:
Steve thought highly of me, which meant a lot…he was a damn good writer — whether he was writing about sports or the medical profession — and the news of his passing hit myself and many of his friends very hard. Steve had a lot of friends…and his laughter, company and kind words often were a bright spot in my day and surely theirs as well.
