PA’s Baby Wouldn’t Wait

Published May 6, 2009 2:21 PM by Terri Schaefer

The Buffalo News published a story on New York PA Julie Schmidt, who last week delivered her daughter, Leighton, in the parking lot of the hospital while her husband was looking for the entrance to the emergency department.

“It was such a wonderful, glorious blessing that came out of an hour of sheer horror,” Julie said.

The quick labor was unexpected. Two years earlier, Julie, a physician’s assistant at UB/MD, gave birth to their first daughter, Sydney, after 36 hours of labor. The East Amherst couple had little reason to think this would be any different, said Michael, a risk manager at HSBC Bank.

Congratulations!

Now, seriously, as a mom and PA, did you really think that subsequent labor and delivery would run the same?

If the third one is born in the hospital instead of the car or home, you will be lucky. Keep an OB kit for daddy handy if you add any more to your family.

Good luck and enjoy your healthy kids!
