AAPA San Diego Update
Saturday has been a busy day so far at the AAPA Conference. At the general session this morning, AAPA president Cindy Lord promised that PAs no longer will be the "curious omission" in discussions of policy and public awareness. Later, CEO Bill Leinweber issued a welcome rally cry to set the stage for PAs' presence in the upcoming health care reform efforts and beyond. After introducing a number of prominent physicians who were invited guests of the AAPA, Leinweber emphatically affirmed that while PAs are staunch supporters of the physician-led team approach to medicine, PAs are not your regular "non-physician clinicians ... We are physician assistants."
Also at the opening session, Dr. E. Harvey Estes Jr. was awarded the first Eugene A. Stead Award of Achievement for his pioneering role in the founding of the PA profession at Duke University, side by side with Dr. Stead.
