AAPA Treasurer's Report

Published May 23, 2009 7:38 PM by Michael Gerchufsky

One fascinating annual presentation at the AAPA HOD that we at ADVANCE try not to miss is the treasurer's report. Bruce Fichandler, PA, manages to simultaneously cram the report with humor and a large amount of data about the finances of the academy.

Not surprisingly, the academy has not been immune to the tough economic times. Overall, revenue is down from $1,568,700 in 2008 to $1,527,900 in 2009. Among the sources of revenue that have seen a decrease since last year's report are royalties (e.g., money from renting mailing lists, etc.), conference revenues and the value of the academy's investment portfolio. One bright spot was that, thanks in part to last year's dues increase, AAPA member dues revenues are up. Fair warning, though: Fichandler cautioned that the academy can't wait eight years again for another dues increase.

Nice summary. You could have added the size ofd the war chest as this gives us an idea how we can spendAAPA monies for the good of the profession. I too appraciate Bruces report as he takes a potentially boring subject and turns it into something we can happily embrace. did I say happily? I don't think we can affor to raise dues for another three to four years.
