Sun Reporter Corrects Omission of PAs

Published August 12, 2009 12:58 PM by Heather Simons

Last Sunday, The Baltimore Sun reporter Kelly Brewington wrote this article: "Nurse practitioners pick up the slack in providing primary care."

Today, Brewington published another article, "Physician assistants and health care reform," apparently in response to a number of comments she received from PAs who felt unjustly omitted from the conversation.

I hope folks don't see this as an intentional slight, as the story was a narrowly-focused piece looking at one slice of the health care debate. But it is true that using more physician assistants is among the solutions being tossed around to help fill the primary care gaps. And some observers think they could play an important role.

Glen E. Combs, an ADVANCE editorial advisory board member, left the first comment on the article in support of PAs and NPs. Check it out!
