Reaching for Medical Information: ReachMD on XM Radio
No matter what I do, I seem like I'm always on the run. Balancing work, teaching, writing, running to my daughter's softball games, working out and tackling the long laundry list of daily activities provides little time for anything else. Finding a few minutes to refresh my knowledge of a medical topic is a difficult task.
Or it was, until several months ago when I discovered ReachMD using internet simulcast.

It's an awesome Web site full of relevant medical information, but what I find most useful is the audio feed. There are a number of programs to choose from, including live medical radio, a medical quiz show, medical news, audio CMEs and much more.
Some of the many programs I really enjoy include:
- "Teaching Wellness As a Way of Life," by Michael Roizen, MD, and Jerome Groopman, MD.
- "Misdiagnosis and Other ‘Thinking Errors,'" by Jerome Groopman, MD, and Martin Samuels, MD.
- "Integrative Medicine: Bridging Western and Eastern Healing Methods," by Cathleen Margolin, MD, and Woodson Merrell, MD.
The ReachMD site offers a number of ‘series' programs that contain a grouping of medical podcasts on topics including, but not limited to:
- ADHD
- Long-term Care
- Medical Imaging
- Women's Health
- American Medical News
- CDC Flu Updates
- Diabetes
- Cancer
- Geriatric Medicine
- Cardiology
- Men's Health
- Sports Medicine
The programs can be listened to online or downloaded as podcasts. You can even download transcripts of selected series programs.

For an even more mobile experience, just download ReachMD for your iPhone! It comes with the same set of recourses and CME courses that you find on the Web site.
With this application, you have the flexibility of using your computer or the mobility of your iPhone while listening to the latest medical information on the go. Kudos to Dr. David Preskill who founded the Web site and to the entire ReachMD staff on an outstanding job!
Let me know your experiences or if you have other sites that you would recommend to your colleagues.
Happy Computing!
Cheers,
Joe
