ADVANCE Perspective: Physical Therapy

In the Swing of Things

Published June 1, 2009 12:06 PM by Rebecca Mayer
With the golf season in full swing, many physical therapists have turned their attention to the needs of patients who participate in this sport or those who may be looking to return to the course. According to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), awareness of proper posture and the importance of fitness and flexibility are just as important for weekend golfers as they are for the pros.

Since PTs began establishing niche treatment areas such as golf rehabilitation and performance enhancement programs, the patient populations treated has been greatly expanded to include those with more complex obstacles to overcome. How is your facility helping clients with Parkinson's disease or those who have had a limb amputated, for example, return to the golf course?
