Turning Fear Into Profit

SAN DIEGO -- Today, Tannus Quatre, PT, MBA, inspired a room full of people to overcome the fear of failure with his presentation, "Starting from Scratch: Making Your PT Vision a Reality!" Quatre believes that by being innovative, a physical therapist can help oneself and help the profession. "Don't get comfortable with status quo," he encouraged his audience.
We all have great ideas -- which most typically reveal themselves when we're faced with an issue or problem -- so why do we hold ourselves back from taking the next step? Maybe your long-term goal is to open your own PT practice or perhaps you're interested in presenting a business plan to your employer to launch a new service. Whatever you strive to do, you may find yourself faced with planning, operational and financial barriers.
Quatre, currently an industry consultant with Vantage Clinical Solutions, got his start as a staff PT and progressed to an administrative role before striking out on his own. He knows first-hand the obstacles one must overcome to bring a dream to fruition. You see, creativity is at the root of innovation, he said. And he believes that every one of us has the potential to be a creative thinker.
The presentation was sprinkled with tidbits from those who personally inspire him, namely Steve Jobs (1955-2011). "Creativity is just connecting things," Jobs once said. Sounds simple, right? This week you're likely gathering countless ideas at the conference that you're excited to bring back and apply in your setting or to your private practice. Quatre encourages you to ride the momentum of the Combined Sections Meeting by harnessing that energy and taking a chance. You just may make your pockets a little fatter while securing a spot in the future of the profession.
