How Can I Learn All of This?
I highlighted this in my last blog, but the curriculum for this semester is very different from that of the entire first year. Our education to this point has been dominated by musculoskeletal courses with a strong outpatient focus. Now that we've finally delved into our neuromuscular courses, there is a much heavier neuro and inpatient emphasis. This is my personal area of interest so I'm excited for the shift, but I'm nervous that I'm going to forget a lot of the musculoskeletal information.
I realize that it's impossible to retain everything I learn during PT school, so I'm relying on the effort I have put forth and hoping that somewhere in the depths of my memory this information will be quickly recalled with only a minor refresher. However, I think of lot of these skills can only be retained with repetition, which is exactly what I will be lacking in the next few months.
I wonder if anybody has a good system they use to "brush up" on their basic clinical skills? I know the only way to master these skills is to review and practice, but I just don't know the best way to approach such a daunting undertaking. I have no doubt that this need to "refresh" will be a continuing theme as I make my way further into the program, so I'm hoping to set a system in place now that I can use for the rest of my time in school. I never thought I could learn and forget so much information in such a short period of time.
