On Your Marks… Get Set… Blog!
Hey everyone, welcome to my new blog here on ADVANCE for Physical Therapy & Rehab Medicine! As any first blog post should, allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Mike Kelley. I'm a physical therapist, having graduated with my BS ('07) and DPT ('09) from Marquette University in Milwaukee. I was born and raised in Chicago and after graduating from Marquette, decided to move back home. I currently live on the north side of Chicago (go Cubbies!) and work in the suburbs just outside the city.
My facility is a 165-bed, acute-care hospital that's part of a larger healthcare corporation comprised of four acute-care hospitals and a large medical group in Chicago and the northern suburbs. I won't talk too much about work here, as no doubt you'll all learn more about my setting/practice throughout this blogging journey.
Outside of work, I love to be, well, outside. I'm an avid endurance athlete, currently with three half-marathons, five marathons, two ultra marathons, two half-Ironman triathlons and two Ironman triathlons under my belt. I also love hiking, camping and pretty much doing anything outdoors. Over the years, I've also developed a keen interest in politics. As chaotic as our political system may be at times, I still keep tabs on as many areas of government and policy as I can, especially those related to healthcare (for obvious reasons).
My hope is that this blog serves not just as a place for me to express my thoughts on the world of PT, the healthcare system and life outside the workplace, but as a forum that spawns discussion online as well as around your own clinics, lunch tables and water coolers. I'm looking forward to this new journey and am excited to hear your feedback and discussion as well!
