Small Efforts, Big Impact

Published August 19, 2008 11:04 AM by Janey Goude

Do you ever feel like your efforts are insignificant? I do. In the grand scheme of life, sometimes I feel so small.  Then I learn of a story like Johnny's and I realize that I am only as insignificant as I choose to be.

Barbara Glanz encouraged her audience to build customer loyalty by putting their personal signature on the job.  Johnny, a nineteen year old grocery bagger with Down's Syndrome, rose to the challenge. He thought he'd make some memories for a few customers; instead, he transformed the store.

Please take 3-1/4 minutes (I timed it) to watch the story

It will be the highlight of your day.

Awesome! I'm going to show this to my son when he gets home from work. He works for a company that is all about great service and I think he would enjoy this and probably want to forward it to his boss.

What an impact a simple, genuine thought can have! And how many ways we can touch our fellow man. Great story!

What an inspiring clip.  It has added something special to my day.  Often as I go about my way, I see something pretty, perhaps a piece of jewelry, or clothing.  It might be anything.  Then I thought, often when people dress, they give thought to   what they are wearing, the color, style or accessory etc.  Most of the time, I don't know them, but I make a point of speaking with them to compliment them about it.  Why not?  It tells them someone has noticed.  One day after church, I was standing in the line at the deli counter waiting for my turn.  I had on what I though was a stunning dress (my sister had one just like it.)  A gentleman came close by me as he was exiting from the area and said in a low voice,  "What a lovely dress!"  I was stunned.  He kept walking in the direction he was headed in.  I do believe that was when I decided I wouldn't let another opportunity  pass without complimenting those I thought were attractive even when  I leave a restaurant, I tell them how delicious the food was and thank them.  I know we  get tired doing our services, but a little special thank you picks us up a bit, don't you think?
