Your Life is an Occasion – Rise to It!

--Dustin Hoffman as Mr. Edward Magorium in Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

If you haven't seen "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium," you are missing a gem.  I love this movie.  In so many ways, it embodies what this blog is all about:  living life.  To live life well, we have to live it balanced.  We have to balance our work life to be productive.  We have to balance our home life to be fulfilled.  We have to balance our work life with our home life to be sane.

Mr. Magorium lives life well.  He is productive, fulfilled, and sane.  Okay, maybe sane is a stretch.  He is eccentric to be sure.  But he demonstrates what is important:  to embrace being alive, to rise to the occasion that each day presents.

Last week a dear friend of mine lost her precious husband of 53 years.  His death was sudden, with no warning signs.  In the face of this unexpected tragedy, my friend is living her life according to another of Mr. Magorium's quotes:

We must face tomorrow, whatever it may hold, with determination, joy and bravery.

We don't know what tomorrow will bring.  So live today as an occasion.  And - if you are fortunate enough to see it - face tomorrow with determination, joy, and bravery.

Thanks for the reminder.  The unexpected provokes fear and anxiety.  We can handle it better than we think with a little faith and hope.  Good friends and family are certainly great assets.
