The Busy PT's Guide to Finding Balance

At Least I've Never...

Published September 29, 2010 9:48 AM by Janey Goude

I was in a parking lot and saw a man walking to his car. He got to his car, then turned and bolted back toward a store. I assumed he'd left his wallet. My jaw hit the floorboard when he came strolling out of "Total Wine & More" pushing an infant carrier stroller! I'm not going to tell you where I've left my children, but I will tell you that at least I've never... left my infant child in a wine store.

Perspective is a huge factor in maintaining balance. Sometimes it's helpful to know that no matter how bad our day seems, someone is having it worse off than we are. If you have a minute, share an "At least I've never" moment to lighten someone's day. I'll start:

I feel safe sharing this now, since it occurred over a decade ago and all of my children are alive and healthy! I once locked my child in the car... with the car running. It was one of those automatic movements. Fortunately, she was young enough that she couldn't unbuckle her car seat, so I didn't have to worry about her putting the car in gear. But that also meant she couldn't unbuckle, unlock the door and let me in. At least you've never...

I have never hit Elmo! I have laughed so much this week over a story out of Florida where a man walked up behind another man dressed in an Elmo costume, hit him in the head, and Elmo broke the his finger! Given the opporutnity I would ask that man what he was thinking. I venture to say he may think twice before getting close to an Elmo again, even one that giggles.
