How Do You Prevent Care Giving Stress?

Published September 2, 2008 1:00 PM by Veronica Haywood

My blog today is more of a question I am hoping any therapist can answer for me:

I have come to realize just how in demand physical therapists are. There are many people who are in need of advanced care from the skilled practitioners of physical therapy, yet there appears to be a shortage of PTs.

With each year, more and more PTs and PTAs are graduating, yet I often overhear people talking about the under staffing at their facilities. There are more and more patients seeking therapy, more facilities arising to meet these needs, yet not enough therapists to fulfill this overwhelming demand. I must say that I am very happy to have chosen PT as a major, and the open job market helps to comfort my worries about finding a job after graduation.

However, with this I have become more and more concerned about "care giving stress." With increased workloads, this can and possibly is potentially becoming a serious problem. So, how can this be prevented and what is currently being done to avoid it?
