About A New York PT in Queen Elizabeth’s Court

Physical therapists have always had a variety of situations in which to practice their clinical skills. Beyond being departmental managers, PTs have not always had a place at the table when it came to the healthcare picture as a whole. After 20 years of clinical practice, I've earned a master's degree in public health and am transitioning from making a difference on a one-to-one basis to trying to make a difference with entire populations. The physical therapy perspective has a valid voice in policy, regulations, and planning for healthcare and prevention on the whole. Join me as I venture out of direct patient care and attempt to have a more widespread impact.

About Dean Metz

Dean Metz, PT, MPH, has been in clinical practice for 20 years as a physical therapist in New York and Florida, and most recently for three years as a physiotherapist in the National Health Service (NHS) of England. That journey was chronicled in Dean’s prior ADVANCE blog, “A New York PT in Queen Elizabeth’s Court.” He’s now working for the oldest and largest home care agency in the United States, training and implementing a growing healthcare plan that addresses the holistic needs of the frail elderly population in New York state. With a spouse in England and continuing research in the NHS, he’s accumulating lots of air miles crossing the “pond” with regularity.
