Rejection Dejection
Remember how upbeat I was about submitting my first abstract two weeks ago? From the title, you can guess how well that went. Why do negative things seem to come in swarms like nasty little gnats? It has been one of those spells where I can't seem to sign my name without having to draw a line through it, write "error" and initial. Ugh.
I have observed my spouse, who is a well-published research scientist, experience rejection of articles and grants for all sorts of reasons that have nothing to do with science. I understand that this rejection should not become an insurmountable mountain, but rather a bump in the learning curve of a new endeavor. How many people get a publication on their first try? (If you have, kindly keep it to yourself for now. Thanks).
I am confident that my study was a good one, that it will prove to be useful information, and that another conference or publication may be a better fit. So as the popular phrase from World War II Britain goes, I shall "Keep Calm and Carry On." Not without some chocolate ice cream to soothe my ego tonight though.
