Respiratory Care Week: it’s that time again
Didn't we just celebrate this a year ago?
All joking aside, respiratory care week is our opportunity to:
- Educate the public on our great profession.
- Recognize our dedicated staff for their hard work and commitment!
One of the most memorable respiratory care week on-going activities that has left a wonderful influence on me was when I as a staff member in Virginia. All the hospitals in this city would get together each year and hold a bowl-a-thon, to raise funds for a respiratory related non profit organization. Each hospital's respiratory care department would host a number of team's to compete. The winning team was determined by the funds they raised as well as the team's bowling score.
Media coverage was provided as well a great fellowship opportunity for all the respiratory therapist that practiced within this cities hospitals and home care facilities. We were all reminded of the reason we entered our field as the proceeds were presented to the charity. The winning team was awarded the plaque that hung proudly on the walls within the department. Needless to say this competition was a fun way to interact with fellow therapist.
