Products, Style & Advice for the Modern Healthcare Professional

In the Bag!

Published 02 October 09 12:17 PM
We've done the work for you with these gifts for healthcare staff members.

Well, it's more like in the box, but there's a bag in the box, so I stand by my headline. I think our new healthcare specialty gift baskets are the bee's knees because they're the equivalent of having your own personal shopper, except for much less cash.

I'm terrible at picking out gifts. I never know what someone will like, and I think my own very particular taste in stuff always clouds my judgment when I'm shopping for someone else. Even if I find something that's the right style for the giftee, if I don't like it, I can't buy it.

Throughout every visit home to see my family, I'd carefully monitor conversations to see if something popped up as a gift idea. My dad and I made guacamole a month or two ago, and with quite a bit of flair, he hacked his cleaver into the pit of an avocado and tried to twist the pit out ... and failed. The Chinese cleaver, his favorite kitchen tool of all time ever, cracked. The Yan Can Cook-inspired knife was rendered useless. Dad joked afterward that he likely wouldn't eat until he got a new one because he can't cook without it.

I felt bad that my guacamole experiment led to the blade cracking, but couldn't help thinking that at least I'd know what to get him as a gift. He insisted he'd buy one before his birthday, but that didn't happen, and if he doesn't get a new cleaver before Christmas, I know what I'll be getting for his stocking stuffer. Well, maybe I'll just wrap it and put it under the tree, as a cleaver as a stocking stuffer could get a bit messy.

If you're like me and have trouble finding something that's just right (even if that something is a big square knife), then these healthcare specialty gift packs will be your kind of gifts.

These gifts for healthcare staff are available for several different specialties - physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology and sleep technology, with more specialties on the way - and each contains goodies centered around the profession. Your giftee will receive, as an example from the PT gift pack, a ceramic mug with an exclusive design made for that specialty, a car magnet touting the profession, a business card case, carabiner pen and magnetic memo clip, all adorned with designs celebrating the healthcare specialty. It all comes wrapped in a pretty striped and polka-dotty box topped off with curly bows.

These gift packs would be a great way to show your appreciation for your favorite healthcare professional. Pick some up for the upcoming celebrations of National Physical Therapy Month (October) and AAST Sleep Technologist Appreciation Week (Oct. 5-11). The time you'll save can be spent spying on family members to try to figure out holiday gifts. My tip: avoid avocados.

About Lynn Jusinski

After an internship at a home magazine where she wrote about media rooms and $500,000 pool renovations from the comfort of a teeny, cluttered dorm room, Lynn Jusinski graduated from a small college in Pennsylvania and then moved on to write for two weekly newspapers in suburban Philadelphia. A column she penned for the papers won an award from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. In 2007, Lynn moved back to the magazine world, and worked full-time as an associate editor for ADVANCE for Health Information Professionals. Her work on the magazine led to “Rookie of the Year” honors and a second place feature award in the annual Editorial Excellence Awards presented by Merion Publications Inc. In her free time, Lynn is typically stuck in traffic, shopping, reading, constructing poorly made crafts and hanging out in and around her hometown.
