Do The U.S. Women’s World Cup Jerseys Look Like “Nurses” Uniforms?
In the FIFA Women's World Cup, the U.S. Women's National Team defeated Korea yesterday 2-0 - the largest margin of victory so far. But that's not all fans are buzzing about.
The team debuted its new uniform, an all-white jersey with v-neck piping and cap sleeves. Nike
says the kit "is designed specifically for the female athlete, to enhance the range of motion and create a uniquely feminine silhouette."
Critics say the new kit looks like a "nurse's uniform."
After Nike and the U.S. Soccer Federation unveiled the jersey in April, the blog From a Left Wing
called it "the ugliest women's football jersey" and said it creates "the impression that the USSF would like its women to play in an open necked blouse."
The black away kit is drawing just as much ire. Inspired by the Black Widow spider, according to Nike, the shirt features the same v-neck piping and cap sleeves. Critics now are calling the U.S. women's team "deadly Black Widow nurse spiders."
What do you think of the jerseys? Are comparisons to nurse uniforms offensive or accurate? Share your thoughts below!
