Penguins for January!

Published January 7, 2013 1:17 PM by Alexandra Streeter
It's that time of year again, back to work after that very welcome winter break. I'm ready to go back to school and begin the year with a winter/penguin theme. I plan to align them to the Common Core Standards while addressing my speech and language goals and objectives.

I am VERY excited to have discovered this amazing website: www.teacherspayteachers.com

I have found so many resources published by teachers and SLPs which are aligned with standards and my goals. Some of my favorites for the New Year include:

Winter Expressive Language Speech Language Therapy

Winter Wonderland Grammar

Winter Synonyms and Antonyms

I found the following units on penguins. I can't wait to use them with me students who are working on labeling, identifying part/whole relationships, comparing/contrasting, answering questions and creating sentences:

Penguin Unit

I found these marvelous (and free) online lesson plans: Penguin Capers and Penguins.

I like to throw in my iPad for some additional interactive fun. I love using the free POPPLET App so kids can create graphic organizers with visuals and writing.

What are your plans for January? Are you glad to be back?  Please share below or on the ADVANCE Facebook page.

Stay warm!

I'm all about trying new links! Thanks for sharing! Do you know of any good resources for Life Skills students related to the topic of recycling? That's ULS's (Unique Learning System's) theme for the month, and I'm having trouble finding much.

Would love to look these up. Can you include a web link?
