Welcome to ASAAE!
Welcome to Autism Spectrum Across Ages and Environments, the newest ADVANCE for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists blog.
My background in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) is extensive. I am an international speaker, author, and mother of a grown son with autism. [For more biographical information on Kathie Harrington, visit the About Blog and Author page]
Autism Spectrum Across Ages and Environments will focus on language, behavior, social skills, family, employment, leisure skills, in other words, anything dealing with ASD. As the title implies, this blog will encompass all ages and cross environments, as autism knows no boundaries.
Written primarily for speech-language pathologists, it is my desire that the information and inspiration presented in this blog be shared with other professionals and parents. I feel that learning is wonderful but to share that learning is a true gift. That's what this blog is all about. We all learn from each other and this is an opportunity to share concerns and solutions about ASD.
I am widely known for my "Ten Laws of Success for Children with Autism." These ten laws have been written about, lectured on, and strategized for both children and adults who fall into the autism spectrum. In several blogs to follow, I will examine each of the following laws, one at a time, give strategies, stories, and how each law can be applied to children and adults you might know. Comments and questions are always welcome.

8. Blended therapies mix well.
9. "Laughter is no detriment to learning." Walt Disney
10. The top line is independence.
In next week's blog I will explain why "Autism is a reason, never an excuse." This will definitely be a time when you'll want to share with parents and other professionals who love and work with children and adults with autism.
