About Speaking of Apps

This blog addresses the use of touch-screen technology for Speech-Language Pathologists working with clients of all ages. Learn about great apps for language, speech, cognitive-communication, and dysphagia as well as AAC and support apps for adults and children with acquired impairments. Reviews, therapy ideas and recommendations of apps are paired with tips and tricks for using the technology to enhance therapy and professional life. We can all learn from each other as we navigate this exciting new technology together!

About the Bloggers

Lynn M. LaValley, MS, CCC-SLP has worked in the field of speech-language pathology since 2003. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Southern Connecticut State University, and a Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Nova Southeastern University. Lynn’s clinical experience includes evaluation and treatment of speech and language disorders including: articulation, phonology, childhood Apraxia of speech, receptive and expressive language, pragmatic language, and augmentative and alternative communication. She has worked with a diverse population of children and adults within the clinical and residential settings, as well private and public schools. Lynn has a great deal of experience working with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down’s Syndrome, Angelmans’ Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy. Lynn is a member of a special interest group which focuses on augmentative and alternative communication, and is PROMPT trained. She holds a license from the Connecticut Department of Public Health, and from the Connecticut Department of Public Education, and a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

Since opening Therapy for Language and Communication in September, 2013, Lynn has been awarded Strathmore’s Who’s Who for Speech Pathology, as well as 2014 Best of Wallingford Awards for Speech Pathologist. Lynn also provides consultation services for evaluations at Yale University’s Child Study Center.

Ashley Brannon, MEd, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist who works at Brooks Rehabilitation in Florida. She has been working in the field since 2006. Ashley specializes in working with adults and children of all ages who have cognitive dysfunction, feeding/swallowing difficulties, speech and/or language concerns, voice, and fluency disorders. She is a certified provider for VitalStim and LSVT Loud Program. Ashley graduated from Florida State University with a Master's in Education specializing in Speech-Language Pathology. She has experience with providing services within inpatient/outpatient rehab, school system, and with a community re-entry program.
