Socially Speaking™ App
Socially SpeakingTM App was designed by Penina Pearl Rybak, MA, CCC-SLP. She designed it as an assessment protocol for social skills. The protocol includes a Social Skills Checklist, Early Intervention-Readiness Indicators Checklist, and Social Skills Management Plan template.
I think this app would be very useful for a school-based SLP who has to routinely check the skills of a student with suspected autism or "that new student who is socially awkward." The app might also be useful for an SLP to provide to a daycare or a private preschool. The management plan would give the staff a quick and easy way to implement goals or a behavior plan. The check lists are simple to complete and the management plan offers the ability to add a picture of the child as well as pictures of types of rein forcers, toys, etc...
Goals of the app are to provide:
1. An assessment of social skills development in young children with Autism and special needs
2. Formulate and implement more precise, customized IEP goals to facilitate self-regulation and social skills in young children with Autism and special needs
3. An enhancement to multidisciplinary collaboration for the child in need of behavior management and social skills strategies
Overall I like the app and think it can come in handy as another tool in your tool box. Some things I would like to see in a future version are a goal bank and some minor fixes. I think a goal bank would add to the efficiency of the app and offer a more robust experience. I would also like to see the .pdf export fixed as it now slightly cuts off the bottom of the pages. A pre and post assessment would be nice as well to track the progress of each individual child you developed goals for. Password protection would also help with the HIPPA regulations if they were to add a student data base to save each child's profile.
