Phonological Process Finder - Review & Giveaway

Published December 19, 2012 4:43 PM by Jeremy Legaspi

The Phonological Process Finder app is a quick way to find specific phonological processes that children use.

You start by entering the production the child is saying in the Step 1 box and in the Step 2 box you enter what they should be saying. The result gives you the phonological process(es) that the child is using.

I think this app is ideal for students who are learning about phonology and those clinicians who struggle with identifying phonological process(es) and saves you some of the trouble of opening a book or searching online for exactly what that child is producing.

There are few things I would like to see this app do that it currently does not do.

The first would be to track all the phonological processes that the child is producing as well as what ages these processes should be suppressed.

The second is a little more flexibility with how you enter the child's productions. For example I wanted to enter for following error "slip" to "wip" which would be both cluster reduction and gliding, however, the app would only let me enter information specific the sound position in words (i.e., initial, medial, final, & blends).

Give this app, available for iPhones and iPads for $1.99, a try. Post a comment below to enter to win a code to download it for FREE! We have 5 codes to give away! Good luck.

This app would be great for those of us that are old school from the days of articulation therapy. I have to check and double check myself when it comes to phonological processes.

I am looking to incorporate the use of apps in my assessment and treatment of students.

This sounds helpful and time saving-- would have more time to think about the remediation and less on labeling the process.

I would be great to utilize this tool to assess phonological processes.  I would love to have this app as one of my assessment tools and not have to carry around with assessments when going from one school to another.  I hope all of the kinks can be fixed.

Oh the time this app would save me!

Instead of having to re-educate myself and conduct another on-line search to analyze a specific speech pattern every time I come across phonological processes, it would be right at my fingertips!  PLUS... I'll be able to investigate any time I question or suspect the presence of a single persistant phonological process in an older child when it would have otherwise taken more time than it was worth.  This sounds like an awesome app!

Jessica, Speech Language Pathologist January 3, 2013 5:38 PM

Would love the opportunity to try it

How cool is that!  This takes the guess work out of wondering what is going on and gives something tangible to ponder for interventions and explaining to teachers and parents.
