About Daniel Merton

Dan Merton is a clinical instructor and the technical coordinator of ultrasound research at the Jefferson Ultrasound Research and Education Institute of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. Dan is also an adjunct associate professor at Drexel University’s School of Biomedical Engineering Science and Health Systems. He has been a sonographer for more than 22 years, and he has been involved in sonography research for more than19 years. Dan’s column “Reflections” currently appears in ADVANCE for Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals.

Dan has been active in a number of professional organizations including the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS), the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) and the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). He is a Fellow of both the SDMS and the AIUM, and he has an extensive history of lecturing at local, national and international conferences. He has authored and co-authored more than eighty peer reviewed journal articles, was the editor of a sonography textbook and the author of more than fourteen textbook chapters.

Outside of his professional life Dan is a sports car enthusiast and enjoys the outdoors, hiking, photography and spending time with his wife and two sons.
