Join a Virtual March on Washington

Today I got an e-mail from the SNM director of Health Policy and Regulatory Affairs notifying all members of the SNMTS that the Alliance for Quality Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (co-founded by SNMTS) would be participating in a virtual march on the U. S. Senate this week (Jan. 21-25) in support of the Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility, and Excellence in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (CARE) bill. This legislation, S. 1042, would require personnel performing the technical components of medical imaging and radiation therapy to meet federal education and credentialing standards in order to participate in federal health programs. Passage of the bill would result in enhanced patient safety and a higher quality of medical imaging and radiation therapy services.

The Alliance is requesting that all members of the SNM and SNMTS contact their senators this week, as the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee is expected to mark-up the legislation within the next few weeks. Members of the SNM can visit the SNM legislative action center on the SNM website at https://interactive.snm.org/.  Anyone with questions can also contact the SNM-ACNP Health Policy and Regulatory Affairs Department at hpra@snm.org.

Even if you are not a member of the SNMTS or other professional society, this legislation is important for all technologists who are interested in making sure that patients receive quality imaging exams. To lend your support to this effort, please contact your senators and ask them to support the bill.
