The Joy of Trying Out New Sleep Equipment

Published September 8, 2011 8:46 AM by Amy Reavis

Okay I admit it there are some things that just make me happy. Usually it is little things like a patient that tells me how great a tech is...  or teaching my son to be a sleep tech(okay, so I would rather he be an engineer)... or playing with new sleep equipment. So here I am with two new pieces of equipment and I am like a kid in a candy store.

I love that my new masks come to me in the mail in a box. I open it up and it is like Christmas morning. The latest mask I received was the True Blue by Respironics. It may be the first mask that could convince me to change allegiance from my regular first choice of go-to masks. I got to use it the day after it arrived on a night shift worker who was a requalification study. Not only was it easy to apply but it had no leak the entire time I used it. When the patient woke he stated he loved this new mask and wanted to know when he could get one to use at home. What more can you ask for from a new mask? Of course I also love all my Resmed FX masks. Now I have a huge arsenal of masks that are my initial go-to masks.

I am also getting the opportunity to set up my first satellite lab. I got to try out a couple of different systems and really liked two of them. I admit that my final choices were between Sleep Virtual and Respironics Alice 6. We went with the Alice system. I really am enjoying getting to know the system. It was easy to learn and my techs that are not very computer literate were able to deal with the change very easily.

What can I say, I love to use all kinds of new sleep equipment and this month has been my month to play.  I am a happy camper.
