    Normal Glucose Values

In a recent discussion with a respected endocrinologist concerning normal (non-diabetic) expected values for blood glucose, I was astounded to hear that a normal 1hr glucose value is actually under 85 mg/dL !!! I thought I misunderstood, and asked her to repeat it ... All the references I have searched including ADA say "under 140 mg/dL". Has anyone else encountered this?

    Re: Normal Glucose Values

I think they had to be talking about fasting glucose.  I work with a registered dietician, and one hour after 75 g of sugar, they expect under 140 and at 2 hours under 120.

There seems to be some division in the field on normal values, because there's one doctor out there promoting the idea that no matter what you eat, your blood sugar "should" be 88.
