Hi everyone, I recently graduated from Ultrasound Technology program and had a great internship.  I have biuld my passion for OB/GYN and I think I'am good at it, and just need a bit of practise.  I keep going to one of a High Risk departments to "brush up" my skills.  Since i need a year of work to take my RDMS nobody wants to give me a chance for an interview. It seems like you have
to know someone to get into the field. I am very frustrated and discuraged.   Medicine is ma passion.....   I need a bit of advice on how to start or get into the field, maybe one of you have an idea  'cos I'm running out of one....

hang in there! Its hard starting out. how many clinical sites have you been to, you might want to check with them speak to your clinical instuctors, maybe they know of some places. im an RTR and when i trained at the local hospital a couple of the U/S students got per diem postions there after graducation until they passed although they got the worst shifts it was a foot in the door. offer for the nights and weekends the shifts nobody wants youll be surprised.

I undestand how you feel. I would advise you to keep talking to any and everyone you can about your situation. If there are any local ultrasound society meetings in your area that you can attend you should. Make sure you have a really good resume and also contact the agencies they help new grads alot. My situation is kind of similar to yours as far as not being able to get a job. I graduated in 1997 and never went into the field I went back into my previuos line of work. I alway's wanted to do ultrasound but thought I could do it p-t per diem but it didn't work out that way. Well last year I made up my mind that I wouldn't let anything hold me back. So I took my exam and passed both physics and abdomen/small parts now I am RDMS. I haven't been able to get a job either because of lack of experience. I am still at it and I know that I am so close to a door being open to me that I will not give up. I attend all of the CME courses that I can to stay up on my profession and next week I am attending the leading edge conference. Leading Edge is a very big deal and if you are an aspiring sonographer you should attend. Well good luck to you.
