    Furthering Laboratory Career Path

I'm thinking about possible career opportunities in the future for the MLTs.  I know genetics is an expanding field even for the laboratory but frankly I'm sick of going to school.  I was thinking about forcing myself into the POCT field or the Laboratory Information Systems field.  Does anyone have any other suggestions or opinions on the possiblity of the laboratory fields?

    Re: Furthering Laboratory Career Path

    Hi There Linda,

I'm sick of school too. I'm still trying to find an entry level job as an mlt. Since I'm also a certified pc tech I've looked in to Lab Information System Consultant jobs. What I found out is that there seems to be more mlt/MT jobs available than Lab Information System Consultant jobs. What's more, is that if one doesn't have a degree in information technology or possess at least 3 years experience as an mlt or MT he/she will be less likely to land a job as a Lab Information System Consultant. Lab Information System Consultants seem to have a higher earning potential than an mlt or MT. I'm so glad that I pursued a double major. Although my main goal is to obtain an entry level job as an mlt the BS in Health Sciences that I will earn will also let me pursue career opportunities in health education. The Lord knows that I'm just about exhausted in my struggle to obtain entry level work as an mlt.
