I am about to enter my first classes to start my new career in the healthcare system. Along with my love for careing for people, I have a extreame passion for tattoos and piercings. I dont believe I will have a hard time with coviering up my tattoos as I am about taking out my piercings. I have both sides of my nose pierced only with studs you can barely noticable. I also have my ears streatched to 5/8's inch. I also have my smiley pierced. For those of you who dont know what that is, it is the flap of skin that attaches your upper lip to your gums. it isnt noticeable either until I smile. I do not plan on getting any more piercings. I was just wondering your experences in the work force that have to do with piercings and tattoos. all of my piercings are closed and healed and I've had them for many months and years.

Try  to stay away from doing anymore piercing. I have heard very negative comments about it among  co workers. Though no one may tell you, tatoos can  hamper your growth for promotion in the field.

As a nursing executivre - I have to tell you that I am not overly impressed with excessive piercing or tats. I do not want to sound old-fashioned or frumpy - but older nurses will be the ones to hire or promote you - and if you live in a conservative area - this may hinder your professional growth. Remember that first impressions are lasting impressions. Good luck!

Malinda-forget healthcare and get a job at your tattoo parlor, or where ever the disgusting piercings come from. If I were sick in the hospital and my healthcare provider came in my room with 5/8" stretches in the ear lobes no matter how sick I would run.

I do believe that you can have the tatoo erased.  It is a procedure requiring a laser and I heard that it's painful but can be done.  Angalina Joli, the acress has had a tatoo removed.  I would just google to find a place near you.
