    Medicare insurance as first payor.

This is the first time I have ever posted to a blog. I have to for the class I am taking in Healthcare Information Management, "Understanding Health Insurance." I chose Medicare because so many people are on this program. With the advancing baby boomers it will expand even more.

I currently work in hospital registration. Medicare is the most common insurance I see. Often, patients are confused about their coverage. Those that only have Part A often do not realize that it does not cover outpatient testing. For many tests, we are required to have the patient sign a form about this, even if they have both Part A and Part B.

    • The insurance that pays first (primary payer) pays up to the limits of its coverage.
