Love them!!  Big Lots, Target, Walmart, all are about 10$. If you order through a rehab catalog $30.00!!!  I also ahve some ideas on different ways to use them, at least I think they are unique. Stephani

    Dawn and others,

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about how to break up ATNR reflex. This child is a spastic quad, s/p baclofen pump surgery, but still having severe spacticity problems. We work on head control in all the developmental positions, but are limited by ATNR,

Any ideas would be very helpful.

In my opinion, the best thing you can do for this child is advocate to get his pump titrated 2 -1-2 times weekly until the best dosage of baclofen is found.  The ATNR will disappear and you can work on strengthening and PROM/AROM.  I am thrilled to hear about who did hsi pump and how it is going. I am a strong believer is this fanatastic device.  Stephanie

I have just noticed this discussion board. I am also a school based physical therapist. I would love to discuss treatment approaches and services within other school settings. I notice the posting are a couple years old and didn't know if this discussion board is continuing. Thanks. Ilene

I am also new to this message board and have been working in pediatrics for about a year and a half now.  I am very interested in using the message board as a way to communicate with other pediatric PTs.  We are still building the pediatric department here - any ideas or must haves as far as toys/equipment suggestions?

What kind of setting do you have?  I've worked in schools for 6 years now and we use a wide variety of things.  Anything that makes  the kids not realize that they are doing work.  There are balance boards that are balls games in which they have to get the ball through a maze - higher functioning kids, obviously.  I have found that most kids love ball play and you can work on single leg, kneeling, half kneeling with any kind of catch and throw game.  Therapy balls are always wonderful - I have learned that singing a song while challenging them helps them more.  Also, bolsters are always good.  Challenge them by making them cross midline to retrieve items and stack them on the other side.  It all depends on the type of kids and also their age. Remember age appropriateness is key - especially for teenagers.

    Re: Pediatric Bulletin Board

i've never used a discussion board before and am looking for a way to communicate with other PTs for ideas and input. I've been working in geriatrics for 3 years now, and recently took on a couple of early intervention cases. I'm looking for some advice and input on how to challenge an 16-18 month old who is not yet walking as i an unaccostomed to the the population. additionally, any tips on how to get the children more comfortable with me as a stranger, as one has been crying 75% of the session.

    thanks
