    Re: Medical Billing & Coding

yes i would agree it would be easy to make a mistake easy when doing coding. I am just taking my first class with coding and looking very confusing. Maybe it will not be that bad afterall.

    Re: Medical Billing & Coding

I'm currently a student half way through my two years for my associates for coding and billing and I figured I wouldn't start out big time because I know you can't come straight out of school and make big money. On the other hand coders don't necessarily have to work in a hospital either there are other jobs that a coder can do. I thank you for your eye opening for others who don't quite understand how reality works hah :)

    Re: Medical Billing & Coding

I am currently pursuing my degree in Billing and Coding. I have a little less than a year left and then I get to begin the process of looking for a job. Like many other people have noted, it seems a lot employers are looking for 2+ years of experience in the field. Sadly, I do not have that kind of experience so that does worry me. I am also currently in the process of changing my career in the military (reserves) to a job that will include billing and coding as part of my job duties. I am hoping that once I finish that training, it will help to bolster my resume and hopefully get my foot further in the door.

    Re: Medical Billing & Coding

Hi there Amy! I appreciate your response about the realistic approach to becoming a coder. In my case I am working a full time job and going to school part time so its taking me longer to finish. In the mean time I have been applying for healthcare clerical jobs just to get my foot in the door so to speak and utilize my knowledge I have learned so far. I have not had much luck with the job looking, possibly because I am trying for full time. I come from a retail management background and I am trying to move into a healthcare office setting. I think I need to go part time first and may have better luck. I was curious what type of jobs would be good to start with, clerical or what? I was just curious. Thank you for your information!

    Re: Medical Billing & Coding

I am currently attending school for my Associates degree in Medical Assisting. I am currently taking a health insurance billing and coding class. As part of an assignment we were told to join a forum and post a question, and then explain whether or not it was something that would helpful on the job.

I am curious for those who are working in the coding field, how often do you see a Medical Assistant assisting with the billing & coding part of the medical office? Also if there are any medical assistants on here, is billing and coding knowledge helpful in assisting patients with care?

Thank You all for you help on this.

    Re: Medical Billing & Coding

Hi, I am also taking classes for medical coding and billing and have about a year left for my degree. My class also wants me to join a forum and then talk about it. I currently am a billing clerk at a sand & gravel company so I am already in the billing field but I decided to switch to the health field because the pay is better and there are more career opportunities. I have read some of the answers you all have posted about having to start out in a lower paying position then moving up. Can anyone tell me how long it took them to move up into the position you wanted??

    thanks for any help

    Re: Medical Billing & Coding

Hi, I am going into this field and I was sondering what exactly do you do in this field? I don't really want to do all coding, but more of like inputing health records.  I was also wondering what the average salary or wages was in this field.

    Re: Medical Billing & Coding

    Hi Jackie,

I am also entering the field at the age of 57.  I am OK with taking an entry level position if the advancement happens fairly quickly.  Otherwise why take all the schooling.  I do hope that employers will look at my past experience in the medical field and think that I am a dedicated worker. I would like to know what are the best certifications to work for if one wants to work in a physician's office.

    Re: Medical Billing & Coding

By Profession i am working as a radiology technician in a private clinic. But few of my colleagues are working as the medical coding and billing persons. It's a good job with the good salary and the one of the best thing about this job that after getting through habitual of doing this you takes minutes to enter and retrieve the information.
