I am also taking classes to become a medical assistant. At the school I am currently attending the Medical Adminstrative Assistant program is only four more class and then I'll have two degrees and can work almost any where in the doctors office, fill in when needed and possibly work more hours when needed. However, make sure you understand coding and billing because it can be confusing at times.

Re: Qualifications

Definitely, Sarah, you benefit from taking additional courses in billing/coding, because you’ll standout than rest of the other Medical Assistants. In addition, you’ll be competent in the both technical field as well as business side of the healthcare. As your future takes you; perhaps, you can be both MA and either medical biller or coder, mostly in the physician office. I would say you’ve taken a step further in your career by taking an additional challenge.
