    Why people avoid FUT and like FUE

    Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) surgery is done through taking a 10 cm to 15 cm long and about 1 cm wide strip from back side of scalp of a person who undergoes the surgery for graft collection. This causes bleeding and makes a linear scar around the posterior scalp. It takes more time than fue surgery to get recovered.

    During FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction, hair grafts are collected one by one through hair punches. These hair punches have very minute diameter that ranges from 0.8 mm to 1 mm. This does not cause bleeding and leaves no scar on skin. It is recovered very fast.

    Re: Why people avoid FUT and like FUE

    The two extraction techniques - FUE and FUT - differ with regard to the scarring left in the donor area. Whereas strip extraction (FUT) will leave a narrow linear scar on the back of the head, all that can be seen after an FUE transplant are micro-scars looking like little dots. The appearance of the scar in the donor area is therefore a criterion for patients wanting to wear their hair very short. As scarring differs from patient to patient and is also dependent on the type and number of previous and future transplants, the in-depth and well-prepared consultation of a hair surgeon is an absolute "must". Special closure techniques such as trichophytic closure are beneficial for obtaining minimum scarring after FUT strip extraction.

    Re: Why people avoid FUT and like FUE

    Yes FUT and FUE differ in the way both the surgeries are performed. FUE on the other hand is an improved version of the traditional hair transplant. The traditional transplant was widely known for leaving unnatural-look results. In FUE each unit of hair is harvested using a swivel scalpel when it is at its original state.

    Both offer excellent results for patients, but they are not suitable for all patients.

    FUT has various advantages, including;

    ·       - It is more affordable compared

    ·       - There is less trans-section because of the splitting of grafts performed under high-powered microscopes.

    ·       -Achievement of greater harvesting with the patients attaining more graft coverage.

    ·       - The procedure is efficient and consumes less time.

    ·       - It provides grafts that are cleaner and less stressed.

    -          - Patients may also return to work 2 days after the transplant.

     Advantages of FUE include;

    ·      - Quicker healing process on the donor area.

    ·       - Assures one of comfort, since the process is not painful.

    ·       - It also allows those who have undergone surgery to have tight hairstyles.

    ·      -  It also conceals the dot scars, making them unnoticeable.

    Those that prefer to use FUE should however note that the method is not appropriate for all patients, because its effectiveness vary depending on the hair loss pattern experienced by a specific patient.
