    Furthering your career

I'm a lab student for the Air Force and was wondering what career oppurtunies are there for MT's and MLT's alike? Is this a good stepping stone for say an MS in Managment or Specialized section of the lab? What would you recomend as a way to make an optimal career path (i.e. $70,000+, enjoyment, hrs. worked?)

It is a good stepping stone, but would have to be director at a large facility with and MS on the West Coast to get any where near 70,000.

Use your extensive medical background you have obtained through your MT/MLT education to put towards another medical career that is better paid and in more demand.  Have you looked into an extended career in Physicians Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, LIS, Sales, Technical Representitive ?  You could also further in to a MD or PhD in a science.    An MSEd in high school science education could be both interesting and challenging.

Unfortuntately the MS / MBA in management in a laboratory environment is not in great demand and you could be in a long line awaiting a position in this area.

"$70,000+" Maybe when you're close to retirement.

Look for something different. I agree with the above comments from my comrades.

I agree with everyone. Nick gave some great advice. The med lab tech is not in very high demand or well compensated compared to other health care fields. It might be a good stepping stone, but many people get stuck in the field once they start. Keep going!!!

With your veteran's status (when you are discharged) you may want to look into a career with the Veteran's Affairs Medical Centers.  If you are ambitious enough to pursue a MS you may be able to reach your goals!  Good luck to you and thanks for your service and dedication to our nation!!!
