    Re: ONLINE DNP PROGRAMS

    Hi,

There are several DNP online programs available. One of the oldest and well established programs is at University of Tennessee, Memphis. The website is www.utmem.edu/nursing and follow the links. You will find cost estimates, sample schedules, etc. In what area are you interested? They have DNP programs in FNP, NNP, Acute Care NPs, Psychiatric NPs, Administrative, etc.

    Re: ONLINE DNP PROGRAMS

I am currently enrolled in a DrNp program at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh.  The program requires you to be on campus one week each semester.  The rest of the course work is done online.   The cost is about 875 per credit.  They are well coordinated and provide housing andd meals for your week on campus including in tuition.  You can apply online for free (Ithink) at RMU..edu   Click programs and go to the school of nursing, than DRNP

By the way, I live in New York and the cost to fly there was $83 roundtrip.  Not bad

    Good Luck

Columbia has one and I figured it would cost 56.000 to take.  1400.00  x 40 hours.  Who can afford that.  It seems more practice oriented that other programs I looked at.  I am not going to do it because of the cost.  shirleyb

    Re: ONLINE DNP PROGRAMS

The biggest factor for me is the time constraints. I can't afford to even spend one week a semester at school......thus the need for a completely online program. $$ is a secondary factor. There is a program at the university of florida that is online but partime right now. Supposed to be going fulltime late 2008. I heard it is 14k total ......that is probably an instate tuition rate.

    Re: ONLINE DNP PROGRAMS

I am completing a DNP online program this May at UTHSC. It is a great program that has more than a couple of options to choose from. You do have to go to campus 4x a year for a few days to meet requirements (for presentations and the occasional lecture), but residencies and coursework is done from home. I highly recommend this program. The faculty is supportive, knowledgeable and the program is cutting edge.

I am currently enrolled in the University of South Alabama, in the FNP Master's program. They also have an online DNP, which I am considering when I am done. Tuition is $227/hr. It is a 37 hour program. Their website is http://southalabama.edu/nursing/DNP.html

    Re: ONLINE DNP PROGRAMS

    Hi TD,

I am currently in a blended program. I take courses online, and then attend a 3 day seminar each trimester.  There are several types of DNP programs. Not all of them lead to nurse practitioner, many are set up as post-masters programs. If you are looking for a "totally online" program because you can not spare 3 or 4 days out of your schedule you will not be happy with an online program.  Online learning takes much more time than attending courses on campus. If you are looking for online because you are homebound or otherwise unable to travel  but you have time to study, then online is a good option.  Studying for online programs, as I stated above, is VERY time consuming. I would not recommend enrolling full time in a program (9 credits or more) if you intend to keep working.  The curriculum is very demanding, and requires many hours of research.

If you post a little more information about what you intend to gain from a DNP program, you may get more personalized useful information. i.e. do you want to be a nurse anesthetist, a nurse practitioner, a hospital administrator, an university professor? It is also helpful to know what part of the country you are in, and why you feel you could not travel somewhere for a few days a few times a year.

http://www.tu.edu for information abou the program I am in. I am enjoying my education, but it it hard...Doctorate programs are like that!

    Jennifer,

Re: TCU's program...Are able to complete your clinical hours within your current practice setting?  I've been looking at the program and it seems very doable to me...

     Thanks for the info.

    Re: ONLINE DNP PROGRAMS

Already an NP. Work in surgery. Can't leave my job for a degree I am not even totally sold on yet. I am willing to do online work. I can do the work in between cases. Nights. Weekends. ect. I can not however go jaunting off for a week at a time to get a degree that wont help me make any more money. Dont get me wrong......I respect the degree and the process of obtaining the degree......but......lets be honest about this........we are in the drivers seat.......NPs are the ones driving the market for this degree.......I dont know too many people who can afford to take off for a week from work.......unless that week is for a little R&R/family vacation. My idea of online is......totally online. No way can I be convinced that at the Doctrate level I need to be in "the classroom." This learning should be totally self directed.
