    Physical Agent Modality

I'm contemplating completing the PAMS course and it would be great to hear advantages/disadvantages faced by OTs who have completed the course.  I'm currently looking for work and am wondering whether it is too premature to complete the course now, especially if the area I potentially work in won't be using have the resources to implement what is learnt.

I'm wondering at what stage of your OT career did you complete PAMS?  There is work out there even if one isn't PAMS certified.

Thanks so much for reading and your input

Hi I completed my modality training within my first year out of school. I think it is great to have done and you can use it with a huge variety of settings. Even if you get a job that you don't think you would use it, you really never you just may need it. I would complete it if it is close by and the funding is there.

    Hi Em

Thank you for your reply.  Your rationale makes sense and that's where I am at the moment.  It is an expensive course and one would think that it is better to do this now (regardless of future work areas) as once you complete it, you are certified 'for life'. It is available through the association once a year ( maybe twice a year) so don't want to wait a year to do the course unless there are advantages to waiting.

Did you find yourself using PAMS  course after finishing the course?

    Do you use PAMS now?

    Thanks again for your input.

    Hi MC,

I did find myself using PAMS as soon as I was out of the course. It took me no time at all ti get all of my treatments signed off. I do still use PAMS regularly (inpatient rehab)

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Em,

Your feedback has helped much, thank you.  The upcoming PAMS course in MN I'm told is a 2.5 day event where education and training is all done so you don't need to get anything signed off.  It is near $500

How was your course structured?  I have no idea about costs and whether other places offer PAMS but I think it would be more reasonable to do the course through the association - just my opinion here.

    Thanks!

Hi I had a 2 day course. At the end of the course was a post test and then you had to be signed off on all modality treatments by a person who was already certified x 5 treatments. Hope that helps.

    Hi Em,

Thanks for taking the time to give me your feedback.  It was very helpful.  I am planning to do the course later in the year.
