Dear Lindsey, I do not have any specific information for you, because I have never worked with burn patients. However, I have had personal experience with burns due to a house fire that my family experienced. I can't stress the importance of the psychological factor that accompanies the trauma, pain and disfigurement that ocurrs. The mental anguish is worse than the pain. Positioning, cleanliness and pain control is a concern for OT's, but don't the emotional support. Allow the patient to talk about the trauma so she/he can cope with what has happened. Oh and please watch for signs of infection. If the patient is having trouble sleeping, ask the doctor to consider sleeping pills. The pain may prevent a good night's sleep. Lack of sleep causes depression and there is enough pyschological stuff going on. Good Luck ! Mona-meow...meow <^^>
