    New Position Proposal

Hi everyone! I'm new to the board and was hoping to get some input on a little project I've been assigned. I work in a children's hospital on an acute peds unit. My manager has asked me to research a new position.  We have an educator and we have a nurse clinician for the floor. I've been researching and found a job called 'clinical support nurse'. Basically, someone who is more hands on, bedside education, to help both GNs and other staff with procedures, etc. Our educator is very overwhelmed with her duties and is unable to be on the unit as much as she'd like. Does anyone have a position on their units close to what I'm describing? Any input would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks for your help!

    Re: New Position Proposal

There are a few positions out there that may be helpful as an addition to your existing staffing.  Patient Care Leader; Nursing Clinical Coordinator; Clinical Support Nurse.  Any of these positions depend upon how Administration defines their job duties.  Most of these are seen as a resource nurse for other staff.  They generally are a high performing nurse that can function as a go to person for any and all procedures, concerns, etc.  They can serve as a bedside eductor for existing staff and preceptor for new employees as well as many leadership functions such as assisting with evaluations, overseeing code situations, core measure functions, discharge/admission help, IV therapy, etc.

     Hope this helps some!

    Sherry,

Thank you so much for your response!  I have fallen behind and didn't see your post until today!  We actually implemented the position and it's working great! Just as you described.  Thank you so much for your comments, I really appreciate it and apologize for my late response.
