    Where are our New LPN's?

I'd like to 'shout out' to all newly graduated and newer LPN's (under 5 years) to the field.

How has life been treating you? What areas are you working in? Are you enjoying your work as a nurse? How have you been received by your co-workers and supervisors?

I'd like you to see this web site as a place you can come to to share your joys, frustrations, ask questions, ect. Don't be afraid to post things!! I'd really like to hear from some new people!! I've been an LPN for 11 years now and have a lot of experience, from home health to long term care and now am working in an acute care facility. I love the new challenges and would love to hear from some new nurses!!

    Welcome!

    RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Where are our New LPN's?

well I went to a Vocational school and it didnt require that we have any prereq's done. But I had already had A&P I and II because I was orginally suppose to go to RN school but I ended up pregnant and that changed everything So I had to take the shorter route and enter into a 18month program. I have to say Im glad I did because for me a LPN first is best.  I can always go back to be a RN later...

    RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Where are our New LPN's?

I hear ya... Im not even thinking about being a RN. The stress of making it out of LPN school was enough for me.. Being in a LPN program has its moments. I didnt like all the exams and Quizzes I had I found myself at one point taking a exam everyday I went to class. (which was Tues, Thurs and  and every other weekend) That was very stressful. Because if you couldnt keep up they got rid of  you. A lot of people that I started out with didnt graduate with me They got kick out. You really have to keep up with the work and the readings Because you'll never know when you'll have a quiz. The school that you will be attending do the require you to have A&P? If you can Start Studing now. A little at a time to get a head start. Are you good in math if not start working on that. They will give you a lot of dosage calculations.  I really like clinical, but when we first start we had to do bed pans and make beds for a while. Thats hard at first cleaning up poop.. But you get use to it. I guess they call it paying your dues to become a nurse

    RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Where are our New LPN's?

Wow you sound almost like where Im at I took  A& P I and II. Sociology, Developmental pyschology and general Pyschology, Medical Terminology, English 101. Im soo bad at math that I had to take pre algebra, and I need to go back and take another course to help  me along.

I was taking Micro but I called myself trying to be superwomen taking that and A&PII. I couldnt do it so I had to drop Micro.  I did all this with the intention of going to RN school. So even though Im a Lpn,  Im glad I did these courses.

You did the right thing taken all those courses. That will better prepare you for the LPN program and the RN program when you ever you decide to go back. I was just looking at the sunday paper looking for work. This issue was a megajob section issue and dont you know 85% of the jobs was for RN's? So this says to me that in the future I will probably go back and get my RN.

Thats great that you have a job that will pay for you to go to school. and give you leave of absent pay. THATS GREAT!

Oh and as far as that question about nursing. when your taking quizzes there is always 4 questions 2 of them are out of the question and the other two are correct but you have to pick the one that would be first priority.

Lets keep in touch you can always email me at bcarlies@yahoo.com

    RE:Where are our New LPN's?

Hello Headtrama. I graduated on December 10th took my boards on Feb 14th and pass the first time!!! Yippie... I got my first job at the nursing home. I wasnt received well by the other nurses noone wanted to take the time out to train me on certain procedure's and that was really frustrating..They threw me right in on a skilled unit the residents had trachs and were complicated.but I came through it like a champ!I enjoyed the residents and became close to some of them but I left because dealing with the coworkers/Nurses was Rough.. A lot of them were mean and spiteful and I just couldnt take it anymore. From the nursing home I went to home care and im still there today. I like it because of the flexiblity but its very easy to lose the skills that youve gained by doing homecare. I dont know if homecare is where I belong either. Right now Im looking into going back to school for my RN.. But who knows what path will come my way until then...

    New Grad

I am a new GPN who will sit for her boards on October 12, 2005 and very worried about experience. Graduated from LPN school on August 17, 2005 and did it with two children (one is 2 1/2 and the other just turned one yesterday. It was very hard but i know that I should be proud , I was the youngest person in my class and got alot of encouragement but asking any nurses who have already taken their boards any tips for me. I completed school but that was only one hurdle, the boards are another

    RE:New Grad

Congratulations!!! Welcome to the wide world of nursing!

I think if you did well in school and if you have one of the NCLEX review workbooks, you'll do fine. There is nothing you can learn in a few weeks of cramming if you haven't already learned it.

I think you should be commended for achieving such a milestone while being a single mother.Good for you.! and by the way..this site is for LPNs and we support one another around here..so please feel free to log on and let everyone know how you're doing!!

    Good Luck!!!!!!
