Pamela, I dont think we will have a problem finding a job, because we are going to be learning the new ICD-10 coding. Also the school helps in job placement.

Pam I really don't think you will have a problem getting hired and she is right most schools will help you with job placement, however I do recoment that you start networking, that will come in handy around graduation time

I've also wondered the same thing, but I will just start looking around for a job once graduation nears. Just tell the school you're nervous about finding a job and I'm sure they'll help you as much as possible with job placement.

    Re: Medical Billing and Coding

networking is just connecting with people to get yourself outhere.  You can use social media like Facebook and Twitter to network.  Go to job fairs, and I read on one coding site that going to Codin Conventions and Chapter Meetings is a great way to get yourself outthere.  Even without experience, employers will see you are dedicated to the field and dtermined to find a job and they are likely to remember your name and give you a call if they have an opening.  Anyone can put in an app. or go to an interview, but if you show up at a coding convention, you must be interested in the field!!!!!  Good Luck.

    Re: Medical Billing and Coding

I'm new to Medical Billing and Coding. So far it's been okay, not too tough to deal with. This new class I'm starting today seems more difficult than I thought. But I'm not going to get discouraged so easily. I'm going to give it my hardest. There's a lot that I'm not familiar with. Wish me luck.

I'm currently in school for MIBC  myself. Don't be discouraged from someone else hardship's. Think and stay positive. Healthcare will never end. There is always positions through home base work. Always stay up on the job field. Sometimes it may take a commute but it is done. Goof luck to you!

    Re: Medical Billing and Coding

I am also a student at Eagle Gate College taking the Medical Billing and Coding course. I have been in the medical field for a while but still find I am learning new things all the time. Don't be discouraged. Keep your chin up and don't give up. It will all be worth it. And you are right. Careers in healthcare are not going away anytime soon and good coders are always needed.

    Re: Medical Billing and Coding

I am almost finished with my schooling as a Medical Coding Insurance Specialist. I am very much looking forward to the externship which will also give me the benefit of possibly landing the job if they are trying to fill the position. I believe that it is all up to me and how I present myself and the knowledge I have gained when I complete the course. You can not go into a medical facility and not know what they are asking or what the reports from the doctors state. I wish everyone the best of luck.

    Re: Medical Billing and Coding

It has been my experience that an externship is a key piece in finding a job.  I made the mistake of going through a medical coding certification program that did not offer an externship and even though I passed the CPC exam and had my credentials I had no experience.  I finally went back for my RHIT and am doing my externship at a hospital this summer.  I expect to graduate in December and already have a position locked down at this facility.  Stay positive and remember intern or externship!  Good luck to you!

    Re: Medical Billing and Coding

Hi. I go to school to get a certification in medical billing and coding. The textbook mentions that there are many opportunities working from home when employed by a clearinghouse or an insurance company. I have never seen a work-from-home in healthcare field on regular career websites. Is there any tip?

    Holly,

Do you have any experience with coding? Can you be a billing specialist without prior coding experience?
